Why are Iraqi civilians thumbing their
noses at US and British humanitarian aid |
Despite being hungry
and desperate for food, water and other essentials -- Iraqi civilians are
outraged and angry at the U.S. government |

The good news is that
humanitarian aid is finally trickling
through into the border regions of southern Iraq.
The bad news is that the US government is being voraciously scorned by
even those desperate Iraqis, many of which have been without food and
water for the last several days.
After watching ABC News with Peter Jennings just moments ago, the
depth of the growing Iraqi hostility toward US military aggression is
finally reaching the US news media, or so it seems. Notably however,
CBS News as of just last night, has largely ignored this reality.
Reporters standing in a small border town across from Kuwait observed
the flood of Iraqis frantically flocking to trucks laden down with
enough food and rations for an average family to exist for a period of
five days. The trucks and packaging of the aid packages were of
Kuwaiti markings and origin, since the local population was apparently
repulsed at the thought of receiving of aid coming from the US or
Britain.
One ABC reporter yelled out to the crowd, "Aren't you happy now that
the US is liberating you from Saddam Hussein?"
Shouts of anger and outrage where chanted in return, "No! Absolutely
not. The Americans are humiliating us far worse than our enemy," one
shouted. "We will support Saddam with our own blood," roared others.
Now friends, interestingly enough, this is coming from those in the
deep south of Iraq where the Shiite majority (who have been savaged by
the Bath Party and Saddam Hussein's ruthless rule) comprise the bulk
of the population! Both the US and Britain have been under the
fantasy and false illusion from the beginning that these people would
flock into the streets to welcome and support the US/British military
aggression. Hasn't and isn't happening. So, what is happening?
It doesn't take long to figure out that the Iraqis may hate Saddam
Hussein a great deal, but as one of the town's people shouted on ABC
News tonight, "We hate Americans even more!" And friends, that hatred
is growing by the hour as the brutalization and humiliation of Iraq by
American and Britain continues. Not only is it growing rapidly in Iraq
itself, but also growing in intensity and at a fever pitch throughout
the Islamic world.
Indeed, increasing hordes of protests are growing everywhere,
including South Korea, Japan, Australia, Britain, the US, Canada,
France, Germany and Russia. In fact, one would be hard pressed to find
any civilization on the planet that has not become outraged at US
military aggression against Iraq.
As I've long predicted, the Shrub Regime<tm> has virtually destroyed
international relations and made US foreign policy of aggression
clearly visible before the eyes of a global community, setting into
motion the probability of a series of hostile retaliatory strikes
against US political and economic targets that we have yet to imagine
in scope or intensity.
Even when, or if, we manage to pull off the destruction of the Iraqi
regime, the political and economic costs will be horrific, and we have
already lost the war. This war was lost before it even started.
It's sad that while some of us certainly saw much of this coming, and
predicted rather accurately the ramifications for this reckless
behaviour, most Americans blindly followed the Pied Piper rhetoric of
the Shrub Regime's<tm> arrogant and bellicose carping of a "dignified
morality" in what is America's international aggression.
These ramifications include, but are not limited to:
1. Increased hatred of America throughout the islamic world;
2. Increased resistance to America on the ground throughout the region
(in whatever form or shape it may take);
3. Probability of increasing attacks upon American economic and
military targets both at home and abroad;
4. Less democracy throughout the region, as many former "friendly"
governments are replaced by hardline islamic dictatorships;
5. Weakening of western alliances, such as NATO, and further divisions
within the European Union;
6. American isolation in the United Nations and other international
organizations (this one might actually be good, but for the WRONG
reasons;
7. Less liberty and freedom in the west as terrorist attacks
accelerate, and more draconian measures are put into place in the name
of safety and national security;
8. Worsening global economy as the investment and production climate
becomes more entrenched, defensive and uncertain;
9. Deepening global hostility toward US leadership in the free world,
if any really exists anyway;
10. Insecurity of US citizen tourists or residents living abroad.
This is only a short list. Certainly you can add some of your own
reflections to this list, but for now, this will do.
